Tata Bolt Spied Again; This Time in Ooty: Launch Second Half of 2014

The hatchback ‘Bolt’ showcased at the Tata stall at Expo 2014 has again been seen wearing camo and undergoing road test around Ooty in TN.

This Bolt, photographed by a reader of Motoroids.com, carries dummy taillamps, which will not be the regular Christmas tree setup Tata cars generally come with.

The reader will remember Motorbash covering the Tata stall at the Expo and the mention of the compact sedan ‘Zest’ and this hatch ‘Bolt’. This upcoming Bolt is of Tata design studios in three continents India (Pune), Coventry (UK), and Turin (Italy). Obviously, the design brief was to redo the current Vista inside out.

The ‘Bolt’ is bound to disappoint you if you are expecting an absolutely fresh, new hatch. Bolt isn’t a fresh, new hatch. It is Vista but a lot of redesign and better build quality, updated and longer feature list, and some amendments to the exterior like the projector headlamps and the LED tail lamps. The overall package definitely appears to be better than the Vista, of course, but it remains to be seen at what price point.

The Bolt will ask more from your kitty, for sure. The touch-screen infotainment unit, the Harman Kardon, the new electronic power steering replacing the hydraulic one in the Vista, the new (possible, not confirmed) AMT system, they all cost. The Bolt uses Tata’s new design philosophy comprising a new language the DesignNext, and a new way to keep the occupants in its car connected to the virtual world through ConnectNext, and DriveNext to help make the drive comfortable and easier and rewarding.

The current top-shelf Vista VX Tech Quadrajet (BS IV) goes for INR 5.90 lakhs in Delhi. The upcoming Bolt will come with the option of 85PS 1.2-liter Revotron turbocharged petrol and 75PS 1.3-liter Multijet diesel from Fiat. According to the information we have, Tata Zest may be launched by May-June 2014 with the Bolt following in a couple of months. Will Tata be able to ‘Bolt’ its fortunes together with these two offerings.
