We informed you hardly a fortnight ago about Mayank Pareek’s resignation as Maruti Suzuki’s Sales and Marketing Head and also about the rumour that he might be joining Tata Motors. The rumour was true indeed as Tata Motors announced yesterday that Pareek has been appointment as President of its Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU). He will be starting his new innings from tomorrow and is taking over from Ranjit Yadav, who will now head the International Business for Passenger & Commercial vehicles.
Pareek’s academic qualification comprises a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, BHU, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
He began his career in 1982 in the manufacturing unit of BHEL before joining Maruti Udyog in 1991 where he was initially responsible for sales of the northern region. Thereafter, he managed dealer development and also led new strategic initiatives like Leasing, Financing and Used Car Business. He went on to become the Chief Operating Officer wherein he was heading the Marketing & Sales department that included Domestic Marketing and Sales, Dealer Development, Product Development, Used Car Business, Outbound Logistics, Spare Parts and Accessories, After Market Services and International Marketing & Sales. He was also a member of MSIL Management Committee, and a permanent invitee to the MSIL Board.
In his new role at Tata Motors, Pareek would be responsible for driving the passenger vehicle business. He will also be a member of the Corporate Steering Committee. He took Maruti Suzuki to new heights during his tenure there which lasted for more than 20 years. Now, his extensive experience in the passenger car market will majorly aid in harnessing Tata Motors growth potential and help the company become one of the leading passenger car manufacturers in India.
