India’s first ever Truck racing championship witnessed a grand response from about 25000 energetic enthusiasts who thronged the Buddh International Circuit to witness the monsters in high-speed action.
After a thrilling 45-min final race, Stuart Oliver of Team Castrol Vecton walked away with the honours. His Team also claimed the top position in the Team standings.
The T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship witnessed two races. The first was a 5-lap Sprint Race followed by a 15-lap Main Race. The Champion Award was handed over to the winning driver on the basis of combined scores resulting from points scored from both the races. The Team Championship, on the other hand, was awarded on the basis of the combined scores of the two drivers of the respective teams in both the races.
Attendess witnessed 12 heavily-modified Tata Prima beasts capable of belting out 370 horsepower and reaching a top speed of 110 km per hour driven by experienced international drivers. To make these Prima trucks fit for racing, guidelines from British Truck Racing Association were followed and subsequently 22 key modifications were made to meet a mix of safety and performance needs for the Truck Racing environment.
Some of the changes made are on – fuel tank, brake cooling system, propeller shaft guards, racing seats and safety belts, exhaust, steering wheel etc. Even though quite bulky, these trucks were capable of cornering at high speeds and handed over to the audience some really breathtaking moments. These moments included close-call overtakes, too.
