There have been recent rumors that Maruti may call their S-Cross with a different name in India. The biggest name making out of different permutations and combinations was ‘A-Cross’, however there is an update which confirms that Maruti will go ahead with the name S-Cross for their new upcoming crossover in our market as well!
After making its debut at last year’s Auto Expo in Delhi, Maruti will unveil the Indian production version at the 2015 Bollywood IIFA Awards, of which S-Cross is the official sponsor. The television commercials are all over ‘Colors TV’ channel which specifically promote this name S-Cross and there is a ‘Coming Soon’ teaser somewhere which we can not find at the moment but if you have watched the following television commercial you must have seen it in the ‘Presented by’ section after the video gets over.
So, we do NOT see Maruti incurring huge expenses on advertising with one name and using some other on the launch model. It just doesn’t make any sense! But yes, they are no more taking the name of ‘SX4’ as a prefix (original & full name of the crossover is SX4 S-Cross), since they do not really want to promote the new crossover on the basis of a discontinued car!

We know how the car will look like and it will sport the 1.4 liter K-Series petrol engine from Ertiga. However, the biggest interest is in the diesel engine it will come with. There are reports of Maruti Suzuki using both – 1.3 liter and the new 1.6 liter Multijet on this car and if they really bring the bigger motor here, we may be witness to some dent in Duster/Terrano’s sales!
