Toyota Plans New Sub 4 Meter Compact SUV & Compact Sedan for India

Toyota India may have decided to refrain diluting their brand with a sub-Liva small car but they now seem to be keen on entering the compact SUV race which is one of the fastest growing segments in India. The company reportedly has started work on this and is even mulling a sub 4 meter compact sedan to slug it out against the Dzire, Amaze and Zest!

As per a report on Business Standard, these new products will not be made exclusively for India but will also be introduced in the international markets including Latin America, Europe and other parts of Asia. The compact SUV will be priced under-10 lakhs which would pit it in line against the hugely successful Ford EcoSport. Senior Toyota officials from Japan have also started conducting studies in India to understand the local desires and needs.

We just hope that these are NOT the same officials who shared their reports on the first Etios twins. Toyota, to be successful in your attempt in this smaller segment, give us a car which is ‘rich’ and not the ones like your earlier Etios’!

The compact SUV and the compact sedan, both will be based on the same platform though details on that remain sketchy at this moment. Their Rush compact SUV was spotted on test in India recently but there has been no concrete link to claim that it was being tested by Toyota and for India! Moreover, Rush is a bigger SUV and we do not feel that Toyota will shorten it to make India-compliant!

Apart from these two, Toyota is also expected to launch the Vios sedan in India to compete with the Honda City and Maruti Ciaz.
