Toyota’s New Camry Coming in August, Assembly in India

On the occasion of Etios consignment shipping to South Africa, Toyota also revealed that they would be launching new Camry in August 2012. The assembly of this premium sedan would commence from July and it would be rolled out to the market in August.

So far the Camry which we get in India is imported and the Camry which we would get in August would be assembled here in India. This would save costs and possibly make the car more attractive to buy. The car would be assembled at company’s Bangalore plant. But currently the company has plans to launch the petrol variant only.

Toyota would be investing Rs 898 crore towards further expansion of its facilities which would increment the capacity by 1 lakh units to a total of 3.1 lakh units. A further Rs 500 crore would be invested towards Engine and Transmission facility. Engine facility would go functional by third quarter of this year whereas the Transmission facility would be ready by the last quarter of this financial year.

Toyota also informed that currently Etios is the most localized product in the lineup at 70% which the company plans to take to 90%. Localisation figures for models like Innova and Fortuner are approximately 50%.
