Upcoming Blue Maruti Celerio Snapped AD Shooting; Comes With AMT & MT

A blue coloured Maruti-Suzuki Celerio has been spied by one of the readers of Autocar Forums and he goes by the name of “speeddemon1227“. It appears that the vehicle was out for the shooting of an advertisement campaign.

The Celerio will be the replacement for not only the low-selling A-Star from Maruti-Suzuki, but also the now-dead Zen Estilo. The first public appearance of the Maruti-Suzuki Celerio will be at the Indian Auto Expo next month. It will be a global hatchback from the stables of Maruti-Suzuki, and will be sold in a number of markets. It has been codenamed as the “YL7” hatchback in Maruti-Suzuki circles.

The Celerio looks good in the latest string of spyshots. It is a car of compact dimensions, and this will make it suitable for the tight environs of the urban areas. The Celerio has a good mix of curves and edgy slashes, as shown by the rear spyshot.

The Celerio will have the 1.0 liter K-Series engine under its bonnet. This 3-cylinder mill will churn out a decent peak power of 67 bhp and a peak torque of 90Nm. Maruti-Suzuki has claimed a fuel-efficiency of 20.2 kmpl for the engine in the other tunes, but we expect the fuel efficiency of the Celerio to be a bit higher. The icing on the cake is the possibility that the Celerio will come with a diesel engine option, but later.

Maruti Celerio will come with a new piece of technology  (for India) called as Automated Manual Transmission (which will be promoted as EZ Drive) which will allow the driver to shift gears without requiring the use of a clutch. This will not be like the regular CVT gearbox, and will also return higher fuel-efficiency figures (as claimed) than any automatic transmission.

Apart from the AMT, lesser variants of Celerio will come with the regular 5-speed manual transmission. We expect Celerio to start at around Rs 3.7 Lakh for the entry level variants and span across till 5 Lakhs. Its interior shots have also been snapped and they do look upmarket considering the segment it has been pitted in. You can check them here.

Do you think the Celerio will be able to reverse the trend of the poor-selling A-Star?
