Mercedes Benz plans on being the numero uno in the luxury car segment by 2020 and they pretty much seems to have started the action. In India also Mercedes is really going bonkers and is on a new product launching spree, bringing in some internationally acclaimed models one after the other.
Apart from the bigger and costlier products like the latest G63 and upcoming GL 350, Mercedes is all set to bring in more affordable products from its international lineup. So, if you are waiting to own a luxury car just at the break of 20 Lakhs, your dream is going to go true pretty soon. We have already caught the A-Class hatch testing in India a few months back. The A-Class hatch is expected to start somewhere around the Rs 18 Lakh- 20 lakh bracket and will be launched in June this year.
That is not all, Mercedes will also launch the CLA sedan (sedan based on the A-Class) in India, production of which they have already started in Hungary and will be the third car based on the MFA platform after B-Class and A-Class. CLA, internationally will be pitted against Audi A3 and BMW 2-Series. Mercedes has updated at their USA site that the all-new 2014 CLA will go on sale in September and will start at a shattering price tag of $29,900 which equates to 16.2 Lakhs in Indian Rupees.

CLA saloon will be the least priced sedan in the portfolio of the German car maker and will slot below their C-Class. Mercedes is expected to launch this CLA sedan to India probably towards the last quarter of this year 2013. The car will not face any competition from its German brethren for quite sometime as the A3 from Audi is not expected to make its way to Indian shores and there is no word from BMW about the 2-Series’ Indian entry.
A price tag of somewhere around 22-23 Lakh could be safely expected in India which will make it cheaper than Audi A4 and BMW 3-series sedans and considerably lesser than the sibling C-Class. Both the A-Class and CLA look youthful, smashing and exuberant. Mercedes plans on having a first mover advantage in the volume segment over the rivals and 2013 looks like the year when they would start the process of getting closer to the number 1 spot in the luxury car segment.
