Exactly on the 20th of this month, MotorBash busted Hyundai’s plans of launching a crossover version of their gorgeous hatch new Elite i20 in India, with a spyshot of a test mule which was covered to the brim.
Like you, we are also surprised at the development and still has this question – Why Hyundai Why!
Nonetheless, since the company is at it, we have a few new spy shots of the car coming in via Gaadi.com and this mule clearly flaunts its projector headlamps in one of these…
Projector head lamps are available only in the European spec i20 and so we can be rest assured that the new car will carry a more premium positioning in the Hyundai line-up. The pic above also reveals the more crossover profile of the car which has a wee bit of raised ground clearance, Avventura-like alloy wheels and possibly an inch bigger tyres. Then we also have the presence of non-complementing roof rails and body clading as well.
Unlike the just-launched Fiat Avventura, i20 Cross is not expected to get an exposed spare wheel on the rear tailgate. Despite the minor dimensional differences with the older i20, the Elite i20 appears to be a bigger and more handsome car, this i20 cross may end up looking even bigger.
The tail lamps appear to carry the same design of the new Elite i20. There have been no words about the expected launch time frame from Hyundai yet we expect the car to be coming earlier than the compact SUV ix25, ie sometime early next year. Engines options are expected to be the same as the current i20.
