SPIED: MotorBash Busts the Upcoming Tata Sumo Grande Facelift

Motorbash brings to you some exclusive spyshots of the Tata Sumo Grande facelift. The vehicle was caught at a petrol filling station as it had pulled over for a tank-up!

From the snapshots, it is clear that the basic shape remains unaltered and there are the regular nip-tuck jobs. The test mule that was spied was white in color, and had a noticeable difference of a black ribbing running through its torso. It enveloped the window lines, and went all the way up to the C-Pillar.

The other small difference is in the design of the wheels. They are a wee bit different from the current edition. There is the addition of a short, bodyline crease in the form of a plastic bar. The tail lamps are refreshed and look better.

Hence, we do not expect radical changes in this cosmetic upgrade. There is, however, the probability of shinier bits and pieces inside the cabin. The 2.2 Litre DiCOR engine delivering 120 PS and 250 Nm of torque will most probably continue to do duty on this facelift. In the last pic of this article, the car parked beside is the current Grande. We could not snap both of them together which would have cleared the differences.

Tata Motors is currently in a tail-spin mode. Though it has weathered the storm in the commercial vehicle space, its share in the passenger vehicle space has dipped. Rising competition as well as growing customer preferences have relegated this erstwhile strong contender to the fringes of motown today.

Tata Motors has unveiled plans to make a fightback. Termed as the HORIZONEXT strategy, it entails the ushering in of new models and products at regular intervals. These could be facelifts or brand-new models. As we had talked about in another post, there will not be any brand new model of Tata Motors for some time. They have invested in an AMP project, and it requires time for delivering results. (Read About project X4 and upcoming Tata products here)

Hence, facelifts such as this Tata Sumo Grande are all which we could look to from Tata Motors in the coming months. But, we sort of like the new Grande!
