Volkswagen India Not Bringing Next Gen Jetta to India

Volkswagen India’s sales performance in the premium territory may not have been something to write about. The Jetta though had been another tale thanks to its still affordable price tag. However, with the anticipation of the new version coming soon sales had dropped to a pretty low number. The German carmaker though will not be bringing the new model here!

Premium sedans, thanks to the rise of mid-sized sedans and utility vehicles have been shrinking in terms of volumes. A report in Economic Times reveals that Volkswagen has dismissed its plans to bring the new generation Jetta to India. The reason being mentioned is that the new model is way more premium than its predecessor. This will significantly raise its prices in the Indian market.

The segment in the fiscal so far has registered sales of just 4,089 units. The numbers for the same months last year stood at 6,146 units. Jetta’s figures though have almost halved. From 858 units last year (April to July 2015) their numbers have dropped to 474 units. In fact, Toyota’s Corolla and Skoda’s Octavia are the only cars in the segment which managed to hit the three-figure mark.

The present generation of the Jetta will be kept on sale till stocks last. So if you have made up your mind to get a Jetta, this is your chance, maybe you can wriggle out a killer deal 😉
