We Were Spot on! Celerio Diesel’s Exact Fuel Efficiency Figures Revealed

Maruti Suzuki’s first indigenously developed all-important diesel engine will be first seen on the Celerio diesel, a car for which the consumers as well as critics have been waiting rather too eagerly now. The expectations are high not just because a diesel in the entry level segment can do wonders but also because it will show us the engineering capabilities of Suzuki in making diesel engines, since they have been sourcing diesel engines from Fiat so far in India. In the backdrop of all the anticipation, Autocar India has published a story in which they claim they have got hold of the official specifications of the smallest diesel car in the making!

As per the report, Celerio diesel will churn out an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 27.62 kmpl. Now flip back a few pages of MotorBash.com to this article!

This is exactly what we had claimed back in March when we leaked that Celerio diesel will be more powerful than Y9T which will be sharing the same engine. The fuel efficiency of 27.62 kmpl will also make the car the most fuel efficient four-wheeler in the country, surpassing Ciaz’s 26.21 kmpl!

The maximum power output, Autocar claims, is 47 bhp at 3500 rpm and the torque, as we know by now, stands at 125Nm. Fairly decent figures these when we consider that its only a small two-cylinder tiny little engine that will do duty on the car. However, there will be comparisons with 4-cylinder engines (of Ciaz and City) which are almost double the size and yet return almost similar rated fuel efficiencies!

Launch of Celerio diesel is expected during the first week of June and Maruti doesn’t have any plans to offer an AMT gearbox anytime soon, on this diesel mill!
