If we have even one single reader who will really be interested in the upcoming Ambassador compact Sedan, we have some news just for you.
MD and CEO of Hindustan Motors, Uttam Bose has officially confirmed that a sub four meter car based on Ambassador will be launched in the market. (No, we are not joking, do not pinch yourself!) The confirmation came at an event in Kolkata which saw the launch of BS4 compliant Ambassador Encore. Asha Roy of Singur, winner of silver in the 200 m event in Asian Athletics Meet in Pune was handed over a gift Ambassador at the event.
This year has seen the resurgence of Hindustan Motors. Apart from forming new technical tie-ups this home bred manufacturer has launched BS4 compliant Ambassador Encore and Ambassador Veer (which is one of the ugliest looking automobile we have seen till date!). Ambassador has been picking up sales and is projected to reach monthly sales of 2000 units. It is the Taxi segment that has shown positive interest in the Rs 4.98 lakh priced Ambassador which comes with Air conditioning and power steering along with a more powerful engine.
News and spyshots of Ambassador based compact sedan have been making waves for sometime now (which we wished go untrue) but after the confirmation from the company’s MD we can be rest assured that come what may, HM will go ahead with their plan of actually taking the brave step of launching the boot-cut Ambassador.
The most challenging task for the manufacture will be to improve their 1.5L Diesel engine which churns out a meager 37 hp power and bring it at par (or anyway near) the current level of similar specced diesel engines.
Since, for some unknown reasons (ok apart from good rear sofa seat comfort) the Ambassador still sells in the market, it might be possible that with an even striking price tag the sub 4-meter Ambassador may help sales further. Ambassador CS is expected to break cover early next year with its debut at Delhi Auto Expo.
Apart from this, there are also rumors that HM may also launch a hatchback on Ambassador’s platform. We will end our report on this note 😀
