XYLO Revamped: Mahindra Launches New H-Series with mHawk Engine

Mahindra Xylo was launched in 2009 and has more than 1 lakh customers to its kitty. It has been a decent product from Mahindra and was recently given a new fresher and much better look.

M&M now looks to bolster the Xylo and their efforts have culminated in the form of the new H-series. The company has revamped the Xylo and the most noticeable change has been the addition of the renowned mHawk series engine (of Scorpio fame) to the Xylo. The automaker claims the 2.2 Litre mill will pump out 120 PS of power and will be good for 280 Nm of torque, all-the-while managing to return a fuel efficiency of 14.02 kmpl under standard conditions.

Not just the engine, the tranny’s replaced as well. A new transmission (5M 320) has been jacked into place with the aim of providing smoother gearshifts, thus improving driving experience.

Apart from under-the-hood-affairs, there have been a few upheavals in the electronic realm of the Xylo. ABS with EBD and a Reverse Parking Assist take charge as the “Electronic-Guardians”. The new Xylo also comes with Digital Drive Assist System (DDAS), Extra Stability Suspension Technology(EST) and Voice Communication Technology (VCT).

Basically, Mahindra has rebadged the E-nomenclature to ‘H’ and hence variants are now known as H8,H9 etc. The new H-Series Xylo also gets a new Dolphin Grey color (pictured above) along with the earlier 5 color options.

We are yet to mention the best part of Xylo’s mid-life upgrade. It’s the fact M&M is offering all these trinkets without an increase over the outgoing E-series! Yup no price increase from its current levels!

The utility segment is where a lot of pitched battles will be witnessed in the coming times. Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are tough contenders, and the-new-kid-on-the-block is Chevy Enjoy. Days after Chevrolet Enjoy broke cover, M&M has come up with a prompt response.

Pravin Shah, Chief Executive of the Automotive Division, M&M Ltd. was very optimistic about the response that the new Xylo will receive. We just wish they had done something about the “slack-jawed bonnet” to revive the front portion’s appearance. It still appears somewhat like a “caravan”!
