YBA May be Lighter than EcoSport; to Get 90PS 1.3 Litre DDiS Engine

At present, Ford’s EcoSport enjoys no major competition in the Indian market in the sub 4 meter compact SUV space. However, there is a long list of cars which are in pipeline to threaten the American! Maruti’s upcoming YBA (which may be called as Brezza) will its biggest rival and it appears Maruti Suzuki is targeting Ford bang on!

YBA will continue to use the same 1.3 litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat. The company though will be using the 90 PS variant with variable geometry turbocharger which is found on the Ciaz. It churns out 200 Nm of torque. Our sources however could not reveal whether Maruti will be bringing out a lower spec 75 PS variant or not. The lower spec version of the 1.3 litre DDiS uses a Fixed Geometry Turbocharger (FGT). We do not have any info on the petrol motor yet, as well!

Modelled as an alternative to the EcoSport, YBA, will measure almost the same as the Ford but will be lighter than 1290 kg of EcoSport. And Maruti is also trying to be more fuel efficient. Just for the records, EcoSport’s 1.5 liter TDCI diesel engine is rated at 22.7 kmpl and we understand that Maruti is trying to achieve a fuel efficiency of about 24 kmpl, which may be a tough task!

Work is still underway and YBA will take some time to get launch ready.
