Speculation: Tata Zest to Get Less Powerful 75PS Multijet Diesel Engine & Body Kits

Tata Zest, which will be launched sometime soon in the market, is a car which is touted to change Tata’s ailing fortunes. What is officially announced by Tata is that it will come with the 90PS version of the 1.3L Multijet diesel engine along with an AMT gearbox.

In an interesting report at Zigwheels, it has been speculated that Tata will also launch a lesser powered variant of the diesel engine which will form the base variant. This is the same 75PS tune which comes with a Fixed Geometry Turbocharger (FGT).

The higher models will get alloy wheels, Harman audio system, airbags and ABS, with the 90PS 1.3L motor with Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT)

Now as per the report, the base model will be stripped of major features. This will help Tata in keeping the entry price of the car competitive. This variant however seems to be targeted at taxi cab buyers which is NOT a good thing to start with!

Apart from this, Indianautosblog.com reports that Tata Zest and Bolt are also expected to get sporty body kits as an accessory package sometime later. Both Zest and Bolt loaded with these packages (pictured on this page) were displayed at the Auto Expo and we must say they looked impressive.

The wide body package includes:

  • Front and rear bumper extensions
  • Side skirts extending the aggressive stance
  • 16 inch alloy wheels
  • Red lining on the front radiator protection grille and ORVMs.

These body kits will help the car look much more striking reaching out to a wider audience and will exuberate the youthful design philosophy which Tata is trying to showcase with these two new cars.
