Tata’s Safari has an update coming its way very soon which will not only be aiming to iron out the ruffled feathers but will also bring a re-tuned engine with more torque. An uncamouflaged test unit was recently spotted and thanks to the attentive eyes of an enthusiast we now have clear pictures of the interiors of the upcoming bettered SUV.
Thanks to these pictures from a Facebook Group Automotive Forum, we can see that the Safari facelift carries a new front grille with honeycomb formation, aiming to make it look more upmarket. The ORVMs too get a chrome job which is loved by us Indians.
The same 2.2 liter diesel engine will be tuned to produce more power and torque. Test mules have been snapped with VARICOR 400 badge and there is no reason why Tata will not offer it in India in this 2015 version! We expect it to churn out 154 bhp of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque.
Interiors are where most of the changes have been made. The steering wheel is shaped like the now familiar unit from the Zest and the Bolt. Looks like Tata Motors wants all of its products to have an identical steering wheel. The new Storme also gets steering mounted audio controls with integrated Bluetooth, Aux and USB support.
The gear knob too gets a chrome treatment. The seats are covered with black fabric. The power socket finds a new home below the music system instead of its usual positioning near the gear lever. The dashboard gets a nice two-tone treatment in black and silver. The instrumentation cluster and air con vents are however direct replicas of the present version. Expect the new updated Safari Storme to launch soon.
