Maruti Suzuki’s previous venture into the mid-size sedan territory, the SX4, did not go down well with the buyers eventually, although the car did start on a positive note initially.
The 1.6L petrol in those days was something exciting in Maruti’s portfolio. The SX4’s production was stopped recently and the car is set to be replaced by the Ciaz, concept and spy pics of which we have already seen.
The fantastic looking concept was officially unveiled at the Auto Expo in February. Now as per a new report published on ZigWheels.com, the car is set to be launched in September and bookings of Ciaz will begin in the first half of August ie within a few days from now. This is the second report which claims a September launch for Ciaz and with SX4 no more in production, we believe Maruti Suzuki will eventually launch it up to get the much needed traction before the festive season.
The front portion of Ciaz seems fresh and designed with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm however the rear, which draws inspiration from arch rival City, is not as nice to look at. The Ciaz in India, which is also being readied for China as Alivio, will be made available with two engine options, both of which are already available in the existing line up:
The transmission will most probably be a 5-speed manual along with a new 5-speed automatic gearbox which the Ertiga already has in Indonesia (on the same engine).
The interiors are also expected to be well laid out and in line with the competition. So, its just a matter of a few weeks before we get to see the real deal! Shall the Verna and City be worried, this time?
