Toyota has finally officially taken the wraps off the new Fortuner in Thailand and simultaneously in Australia. In India the Fortuner is the largest selling premium SUV buoyed by the Toyota brand name and butch image. The new version though loses out on the muscular looks and emerges as a more aerodynamically aesthetic package.
The front grille has a large-ish appearance with thick chrome extending it around the bi LED swept-back head lamps. The three dimensional trapezoidal front bumper lends it a mature image. The side profile remains pretty much the same but has a blackened C pillar for a floating roof look. The rear panel gets a sleek looking LED tail lamp set up with a chrome garnish on the tail gate.
Engine options for Thailand include two diesels and a petrol (a 2.7 litre mill which is unlikely to make its way to India). Here are the details for the two diesels which are expected to be plonked in the new Fortuner when it makes its way to India:
A new six speed manual transmission has been developed which will also be mated with a new 6 speed auto unit.
The new Fortuner gets 7 airbags, hill-start assist control and emergency stop signal. Reversing camera is standard across the range with features like front and rear air-conditioning, large touchscreen audio displays, side steps, 17 or 18-inch wheels (depending on the variant), disc brakes front and rear, and an air-conditioned compartment that helps keep drinks and food warm or cold.
It measures 4,795 mm in length, 1,855 mm in width and 1,835 mm in terms of height while the wheelbase is 2,745 mm. So, Toyota, we await this for India…but do not increase the prices…..they are already high…..
