BMW launched the 6 Series Gran Coupe in India yesterday at a starting price tag of Rs 1,14,90,000 ex-showroom, Delhi. With its elegantly styled exteriors, which are complimented by luxurious interiors, the Coupe aims to take you on a gala trip on the lap of indulgence. The nine kidney grille slats at the front and redesigned head lamps which now come as standard, gels with the rear profile which is studded with sleek lines and a chrome plated tailpipe to bring a new revolution in the art of sportiness.
Engine & Performance:
Powering the car is a diesel TwinPower turbocharged straight 6 cylinder engine, displacing 2,993 cc. Mated to an 8 speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, the engine is good for 312.7 PS of maximum power at 4,400 rpm and a peak torque output of 630 Nm in the range of 1,500 to 2,500 rpm. The beast will hit the ton in a claimed 5.4 second flat and will top out at 250 kmph.
You can select from different driving modes to suit your needs which include Eco Pro, Comfort, Comfort+ and Sport. The Dynamic Damper Control will be working behind the scenes to adapt the shock absorber characteristics to suit both the road condition and driving style of the driver. The pie on the top is the presence of Brake Energy Regeneration and a 50:50 weight distribution.
With all the technological wizardry inside, BMW has not forgotten to give due consideration to safety. With a host of airbags you get ABS with brake assist, Attentiveness Assistant, Cornering Brake Control, Dynamic Stability Control and Dynamic Traction Control. Adding to the safety net are three point seat belts all around; one also gets pyrotechnic belt tensionisers and belt force limiters at the front row.
Interiors:
The dashboard is jeweled by a high resolution free standing control display with a glass casing and galvanized surround. The centre console is a high gloss surface with a black panel with a rather somber air around it. The BMW Connected Drive includes a Harman Kardon Surround System with an output of 600 watt with an array of 16 speakers.
The iDrive with a 25.9 cm colour display with a DVD drive and an integrated hard drive for map files and music. Care to splurge more? You can get a high end Bang and Olufsen surround system.
