Tata may launch Zest Compact Sedan by May-June

Tata is going through a busy time. They are on a revamp spree and intends to change the perception of how buyers look at their cars in India. They have the 2014 updated Aria and Movus MPV ready for a March 12 launch.

The two of the prime-most products that Tata is banking upon to turn-around their fortunes, undoubtedly are Zest sedan and Bolt hatchback. While it is known that Zest will come earlier than Bolt, according to what we have learnt, Tata may launch Zest by May or June this year, with Bolt following within a couple of months. This will set a perfect platform for Tata to continue the momentum till the festive season.

Tata is carrying out exhaustive testing of both Zest and Bolt with multiple test mules running around the clocks for many lakh kilometers each. They just want to get it right this time, anyways they do not have any other option! Zest and Bolt are their make or break products and they know that very well.

It would depend a lot on the test results of the Zest mules and if they are finally able to satisfy the company’s top honchos, the launch would go ahead as planned, else we may also see a delay. Very recently, we had the first-ever on-road spyshots of Zest which sported a different grille from the model that was showcased to the media and at the Auto Expo in Noida.

According to the confirmation from the company, Zest will be launched with the 1.2L 85PS 140Nm REVOTRON petrol motor along with the VGT 90PS 200Nm 1.3L Quadrajet diesel engine. The biggest point of interest is the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) that Zest will sport on the diesel mill, making it the cheapest diesel auto gear shift sedan in India when it goes on sale.

Bolt will also come with the same engines, but it will get the FGT 75PS 190Nm version of the Multijet motor for now. There is no AMT confirmed by Tata as well but it will come on later, for sure!
