Scorpio Facelift’s Interiors Busted; Look Better but What About Quality?

The Scorpio facelift could easily be tagged as the most spied vehicle of recent times and it has come under the lens once again courtesy Autocar. This time the SUV’s interiors are sneaked and they do reveal some interesting details.

New Scorpio facelift will have an all-new dashboard and layout. The XUV500 inspiration is pretty much evident; the oval air con vents have gone under the knife first and have come out to be all shiny and new chrome studded rectangular units. The instrument cluster gets a more urbane and serious look, which lends a smarter look to the SUV. The steering wheel appears to be almost a direct lift from the XUV500 and gets a host of controls to play with.

Another prominent change is the new infotainment unit. It looks fairly big and tries to lend an upmarket feel to the car. It would probably also house the live feed for the rear view camera, which would be very helpful while parking this tall SUV at tight corners. The air con knobs also appear to be better in quality and Autocar says that the top variant can be expected to have an automatic climate control as well. Over all the dashboard is less cluttered and has everything arranged in a neat manner..well almost!

Mahindra has also added a 12 volt charging point near the gear knob which will help you on those long runs (and specially if you have androids ;)). The gear knob has also been re-sculpted, though it just manages to look a little-less boring than the old square shaped one.

Scorpio desperately needed better interior and Mahindra has awarded it one, however, it is equally important that the quality of the materials used is also upmarket. Today’s Scorpio just looks like a 5 Lakh car from inside!

In terms of the exteriors, the single biggest change has been in the headlamps cluster. At least the top variants will get projector headlamps. There are other regular cosmetic changes to the SUV as well.

Mechanically, the Scorpio facelift shall most probably continue with the same 2.2L & 2.5L diesel hearts as that of the present iteration. Mahindra is expected to launch the new Scorpio facelift around June-July 2014.
