Suzuki iV-4 Compact SUV Concept is an XA-Alpha Sibling; Unveiled At Frankfurt

As promised earlier, a shiny, out-of-this-age concept vehicle has been showcased by Suzuki at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the Suzuki iV-4 Concept for a Compact SUV.

Almost similar to the XA-Alpha Concept which debuted at Delhi Auto Expo in 2012, the vehicle seems way ahead of the curve in terms of styling. The production version will lock horns with the Ford EcoSport as well as the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano.

Dimensions Comparison Against Duster, EcoSport & XA-Alpha

Being touted as the Baby Grand Vitara, it is 4215 mm long, 1850 mm wide and stands 1655 mm high. The footprint of the vehicle is 2500 mm wide. Comparing these directly with Duster, it is 100mm smaller, 40mm lower but 28mm wider!  Against (Indian) EcoSport, it is significantly longer by 215mm, 53mm smaller and 85mm wider. But it has a shorter wheelbase than both EcoSport’s 2520mm as well as Duster’s 2673mm.

When we compare the dimensions of this iV-4 concept with XA-Alpha, it begins to appear that both of them share platforms. Both of them sit on a 2500 mm wide wheelbase. However, the XA-Alpha is 215mm smaller, 50mm wider and 55mm lower than the iV-4 concept.

The cynosure is the front part of the car, with its distinctive styling. There are LED accents around both the headlamps and foglamps. Suzuki has installed its trademark five-slot grille along with the clamshell hood. The creases on the car are swift and free-flowing, lending an air of finesse.

Though it lacks beefiness above the front wheels, it is more than made up by the muscular haunches at the rear. When viewed from the rear, the car looks intimidating. Sharply-cut tail-lamps and a twin-exhaust setup dominate proceedings at the rear.

Not many details were presented at the Suzuki stall is what is reported. Hence, we aren’t concrete about the powertrain options. We are also confused about its actual relation and distinction with XA-Alpha. Nonetheless, we will come to know the details with time…

Do we have an EcoSport killer on the horizon??
