Hyundai has informed that 2014 has been the best ever year for them. Scoring their highest ever market share of 21.6 per cent, the South Korean manufacturer sold over 4.10 lakh units this year. This is their best ever performance in the 16 years period they have spent in India.
Hyundai is clearly a big success story in India and are the only company which, in certain segments, pose a threat to Maruti Suzuki! Such a stellar performance also questions a few other manufacturers who were caught hiding behind the ‘gloomy economy’ curtains.
Not only has Hyundai managed to, so far, appease the needs of 3.5 million customers, they have also managed to keep their export figures glowing. The company has yet again retained the position of the country’s largest passenger car exporter, an esteemed pole position which they have maintained since 2004. Taking the ‘Make in India’ inspiration seriously, the company recorded a 40 per cent market share in the exports territory.
2014 also saw the global debut of two new cars on Indian soil, the compact sedan Xcent and the premium hatchback, Elite i20. The Elite i20 turned out to be their third super successful model after the Grand i10 and Xcent. The gorgeous looker sold a whopping 10,500 units in November and has total bookings of more than 56,000 units. MotorBash broke the story (with the following spyshot) that the company is also working on its crossover version which might be called Elite i20 Cross.
After Grand i10 won it in 2013, Hyundai won the Indian Car of the Year 2014 for the Elite i20 this year. The new year 2015 will definitely continue to be another exciting 365 days with some new products coming from the Korean to lure the customers. According to what we know at this point, (apart from the i20 Cross) Hyundai has the Duster rivaling compact SUV, ix25 and new 2015 Verna facelift planned for this year, obviously apart from the various limited editions that have become a trend these days.
