Sept. 2014 Sales: Honda Registers 45% Growth (Model-wise Break-up Inside)

Among all car manufacturers in India, 2014 has been perhaps the best yet for Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL). Sailing on the success of the Mobilio (it outsold both the Ertiga and the Innova last month!) and the new City, the company registered another good month of sales registering a 45 per cent growth this time in September over the sales achieved in the same month last year. Honda sold 15,105 cars in the domestic market last month whereas it had managed to sell 10,354 cars in September 2013.

In fact, the press release states that ‘all models from the company’s stable have maintained strong sales momentum during the first half of the current financial year. Honda registered an overall growth of 47.9 per cent during April– September 2014 with 88,200 units sold as against the 59,617 sold during the corresponding period last year.

September 2014 sales: Nissan registers 64.2% growth by selling 4,145 cars

Nissan sold 4,145 vehicles in September 2014 registering a 64.2 per cent growth when compared to the sales in the same month last year where it had managed to sell only 2,527 units. In fact, last month’s sales are a great achievement if you consider Nissan’s sales in July 2014 which stood at only 2,913 vehicles.

Overall, Nissan closed the second quarter of the current financial year with sales of 25,741 units as compared to the 12,515 units sold in the same period last year. The company’s current Indian portfolio comprises Micra and Micra Active hatchbacks, Sunny sedan, Evalia MPV, Terrano SUV, and Teana sedan. While none of these vehicles have set the sales charts on fire, the Terrano and Sunny have gathered decent momentum of late, which can be seen in the sales numbers.

Toyota registers 4% growth – sells 12,552 cars in September 2014

A precursor to the sales expected in the festive season could be seen across the industry in the last month where, save for one or two, almost every car and bike manufacturer showed positive trends in sales. Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) was no exception and it registered a growth of four per cent by selling 12,552 units in September 2014 in the domestic market as compared to the 12,015 units sold in the same month, last year.

However, the company exported 1,500 units of Etios series last month, which is less when compared to the 3,780 units exported in the same month of 2013. N Raja, Director and Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, TKM, is of the view that ‘the industry is beginning to gradually turnaround and positive market sentiments combined with the festive season is expected to boost sales in the coming months as well.’
