Auto Expo is about showing the best of your models and technology in the form of production-ready or concept versions and after announcing their revival strategy for India, Chevrolet showcased their Essentia notchback and Beat Activ!
While the Beat Active is a crossover based on the hatchback, Essentia is the name of the compact sedan structured on the same platform. The company believes that both these products will play a pivotal role in reshaping their sales and brand image. While that will depend on how the public reacts to these new cars, for now let’s have a look at some quick details on both of these upcoming Chevys.
The ‘notchback’, is a sub 4 metre compact sedan using the underpinning of the hatch and claims to be traditional yet richly appointed! Since Beat is a high car, Essentia also emerges almost as a tall-boy design but that third box doesn’t look out of place. Chevy has done a decent job and there may be subtle Dzire hints in designing the boot.
We believe Chevrolet could have showcased Essentia in a brighter colour to highlight its wheel arches and the overall creases and its muscular body. In this grey it looks a little subdued. Launch is scheduled for next year.
Chevrolet Beat Activ:
This crossover hatchback based on the upcoming Beat facelift is also slated for a launch sometime next year. Studded with LED head lamps and fog lamps, skid plates and black plastic cladding, the Activ is striking. It will add to the growing number of cross hatchbacks in the market and let us hope Chevrolet doesn’t overdo by promoting it as an SUV like some others we have seen.
The idea will be to explore the more youthful consumers and by the terminology used, we believe Chevy may lend it some juicy engines.
Both the cars come equipped with Chevrolet’s latest MyLink infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Chevrolet hasn’t revealed the engine details for both the cars but we believe they may get the bigger 4 cylinder 1.3 liter Multijet diesel engine instead of the 3-cylinder version of the same which does duty on the Beat hatchback.
