Honda Gets Aggressive; Confirms Next-Gen City With Diesel Early 2014

Update: Next-Gen Honda City with Diesel Indian Unveiling is Scheduled for Next-Month. Read Details here.

After posting robust growth in the Indian car market in the last few months, Honda is all charged up. They plan to introduce the Diesel version of their most popular offering, the Honda City.

Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, sales and marketing, stated that after its Japanese debut, Diesel version of Honda City will be launched in India in early 2014. A diesel variant of the popular Honda City will help in stoking even more demand. We expect Honda to post even higher growth after the Diesel variant of Honda City gets introduced.

It will be the same 1.5L I-DTEC diesel mill that currently powers Amaze but it is expected that on the City, a VGT (variable geometry turbocharger) will find place in turn enhancing the power output of the car.

Not only the new Honda City, the Japanese behemoth is looking forward to introduce its All-New Jazz in India. The Jazz is known by the name of Fit in Japan and some other countries. The new version of Fit has already been launched in few countries other than Japan. But still, Honda isn’t done yet!!

They are also poignant about creating a new segment of faster, sleeker and smarter vehicles. Another important vehicle coming from them is the Urban Compact SUV, which is yet to make its world debut.

They are also looking at a re-run of the Civic Hybrid. However, that remains largely entangled in the Indian government’s hands. Current policy is so myopic that it tends to nearly double the retail price of any hybrid car, as compared to the price at which the company intends to sell it at. All this happens because of a vicious web of import duties, levies and taxes pointed towards hybrid cars.

Looks like Maruti-Suzuki has quite a bit of things to look after now!!
