The much-awaited Diesel version of the Tata Nano is not far away from its unveiling, according to a report by Business Standard. The Tata Nano is now probably facing the toughest situation ever since it was launched.

Not just the Nano, the whole of Tata Motors is engulfed in a vicious circle. Its market share has been slipping in the passenger car sphere since long. The Nano itself has seen a significant fall in its volumes within the last few months. The dedicated Nano plant at Sanand is always far from running all its shifts, let alone resuming full capacity of production.

To  buck the trend, Tata Motors will be launching the Diesel version of the Tata Nano in the current financial year which should be in or before March 2014. They hope that  it will shore up volumes, and improve margins. The Nano is currently available in the petrol option and is priced between 1.45 lakhs to 2.20 lakhs INR (Ex-Showroom Delhi). Apart from the Diesel version, there is also a CNG avatar of the Nano waiting in the wings to be launched by this October.

The People’s Car, as the Nano is popularly known, has seen volumes shrink by a whopping 78%. It sold 6,017 units between April 2013 – July 2013 against the same period in the last year.

Nano diesel is the only upcoming car that appears to be a savior for Tata in the shorter term. The Nano diesel has been spied extensively. We, at MotorBash, have reported about the Nano Diesel in detail. You can have a look at it here.

  1. Nano Cars are value for money, economical to run and SAFE. But any body today does not bother spending little more to drive a Normal Car. I drove this car only for just 3.5 minutes, handed over the steering to the Proud Nano Owner and concluded: A car must have Power Steering (electric) and ABS brake. Without these 2 must haves, no use having so many versions of The Loving Nano.
