In their roadmap for India, Fiat projected that they will launch the new Punto facelift around the same time as the new Linea facelift. The first ever spyshots of New Linea were busted by us in August (here) last year and the company went onto unveil the car at the Auto Expo as well.
However, there has been no real update on the new Punto facelift till now. However, in a new scooping bit, Team-BHP.com member karan561 has snapped the Punto facelift being tested in Pune, for the first time ever. The spotting contains a couple of shots and 3 mules which carry camouflage on the front as well as the rear.
Not much can be made out as far as the possible changes to the new Punto facelift are concerned because of the lack of clarity of the spyshots but a new face and a refreshed butt is what we can expect. We can expect a few design cues to be taken from the international Puntos, if not the complete car!
In terms of engines, as Fiat has already confirmed that Punto facelift will continue with the same set of engines that do duty currently ie the 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol engine as well as the 1.3L Multijet diesel engine. However, we urge Fiat to make the car a little peppier and more driveable.
According to the official word back in Dec 2012, Punto refresh was scheduled to be launched during the early part of 2014. However, we believe there may be a slight delay and Fiat may consider launching it around the middle of the year, just before the Avventura crossover.
