After the coup that took place at the ICOTY awards few days back, the Ford EcoSport has grabbed what it really deserved. In a whirlwind comeback, Ford EcoSport grabbed as many as six awards at the Bloomberg TV-Autocar Awards for 2014.
We don’t want to rob the joy off Hyundai Grand i10’s spectacular win at the ICOTY awards, but the Ford EcoSport did appear to be the more deserving candidate when one took the potent combination of price, looks and offerings into consideration. The six awards that the Ford EcoSport lapped up were :
- Car of the Year
- Viewer’s Choice Car of the Year
- Best Value for Money
- SUV of the Year
- Engine of the Year (1.0L EcoBoost)
- Technology & Innovation Award
None of the above awards come up as a fluke. Take for example the “Engine of the Year” award, provided posthumously for the technological marvel called the 1.0 L EcoBoost engine. The “Best Value for Money” award doesn’t need any explanation, as the EcoSport’s price tag infact made incursions into the territories of hatchbacks. Combine the above all factors, and you can see the logic behind the Ford EcoSport being handed over the remaining ones among the six awards.
The jury of the awards panel included the Who’s Who of the automobile industry as well as its ancillaries like automotive journalism and motorsport. Some of the names are Hormazd Sorabjee, Narain Karthikeyan and C.S. Santosh (A MotoCross Rider).
However, that doesn’t really take off the albatross that hangs on the Ford EcoSport’s neck in the form of delivery delays and inflating prices – overall a mess-up of Ford India. Among tons of others, one of our team members who booked an EcoSport was really pissed off at Ford India’s sheer lack of handling and mismanagement of mass selling cars and went ahead with a comeptition SUV.
