Mercedes launched their smallest A-Class in India on 30th May at a slightly higher than expected prices of Rs 21.93 Lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai.
Despite the higher price tag, Mercedes tells us that people are flocking its showrooms and bookings of this small wonder have crossed 400 within the first 10 days! This is the best ever response any Mercedes car has received in India in its complete 1.5 decade long journey.
A-Class is the first product in this newly created segment of compact luxury cars in India. It is also the smallest and the most affordable Mercedes on offer. In fact, A-Class is the cheapest luxury car you can buy right now. Mercedes A-Class has been a roaring success internationally ever since its first advent as it garnered 90,000 bookings within a very short span of time.
In India, Mercedes launched both the petrol and diesel variants. While the petrol costs higher at Rs 22.73 Lakhs, diesel is cheaper at Rs 21.93 Lakhs ex-showroom Mumbai. While the current A-Class is brought to India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) in turn attracting huge taxes, Mercedes do have plans for CKDs (Completely Knocked Down Units) of A-Class sometime later which might reduce the prices of the car.
At this occasion, Mercedes MD and CEO Mr Eberhard Kern said,
Already a global sensation, the success of the A-Class in India reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s stand that young India has now come of age and Indians who lead a global lifestyle today, value trendy design, dynamic driving and quality when it comes to their personal mobility preferences. The overwhelming success of the A-Class inspires us to push ahead even more aggressively with our New Generation Cars for the Indian market.
